Taiwan–Japan Advanced Cybersecurity Technology Workshop Held in Tokyo: TACC and NICT Advance Joint Research

To further strengthen international collaboration in cybersecurity between Taiwan and Japan, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) hosted the Taiwan–Japan Advanced Cybersecurity Technology Workshop (TWN-NICT Workshop 2025) in Tokyo. On December 19, 2025, Prof. Hsu-Chun Hsiao, Co-PI of the TACC program, led a delegation of 13 researchers to Japan to participate in the event, joining 16 researchers from NICT for technical discussions and research exchanges. This workshop marks the second major exchange between the two sides, following the TWN-NICT Cybersecurity Workshop held in Taipei on December 4, 2023.

Through technical presentations and demonstrations, the workshop further strengthened bilateral research collaboration. Experts noted that cybersecurity technologies are currently undergoing rapid transformation, with artificial intelligence increasingly integrated into cybersecurity systems. AI is evolving from a supporting analytical tool into a core capability capable of assisting decision-making and automated responses. At the same time, the widespread adoption of AI has introduced new security challenges, leading to parallel research developments in both “AI for Security” and “Security for AI,” which are emerging as key directions in future cybersecurity research.

During the visit, the TACC delegation also toured NICT headquarters, where staff introduced the institute’s research initiatives and facilities, providing insight into Japan’s latest developments in information and communications technology and scientific research.

In addition, the Joint Research Agreement between TACC and NICT was officially signed on January 13, 2026, marking a new phase of collaboration between the two organizations. Moving forward, both sides will continue to promote long-term cooperation through technical workshops, research exchanges, and joint academic publications, gradually establishing a stable Taiwan–Japan cybersecurity collaboration platform to advance innovation and development in cybersecurity technologies.
