Research Project
Multi-Layer Security Enhancement for Information and Communication Systems
Abstract
As mobile communication technologies advance from 5G toward 6G, next-generation mobile networks are set to become the foundational infrastructure for smart cities, autonomous vehicles, satellite communications, and AI-driven applications. However, these technological advancements also bring a rapidly expanding attack surface and increasingly complex cybersecurity threats. This project focuses on the systemic cybersecurity challenges of next-generation mobile networks, proposing AI-driven, cross-layered, and application-oriented solutions that ensure the stability and security of critical infrastructure, government systems, and industrial applications. The project is composed of four interrelated subprojects, structured around two major research dimensions: horizontal (cross-component) security and vertical (full-stack) security, to comprehensively strengthen the cybersecurity of mobile ecosystems: (1) Subproject 1: Network Protocol Security with AI, which leverages intelligent methods to analyze protocol vulnerabilities and defend against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks; (2) Subproject 2: AI-based Integration of CTI and Sighting for Proactive Defense, which constructs an intelligent threat reasoning engine for anticipatory cybersecurity; (3) Subproject 3: AI-Driven Security and Privacy Protection for Next-Generation Communications, focusing on edge computing, privacy preservation, and detection of malicious AI computational behaviors; (4) Subproject 4: Secure Information and Communication System based on Software and Hardware Hardening Techniques, which builds a trustworthy, responsive, and full-stack cybersecurity architecture from hardware and firmware up to application layers. The project also integrates technological innovation with real-world application strategies, including the modularization and commercialization of core technologies, vulnerability discovery with CVE publication, DevSecOps tool integration, and deployment in industry testbeds. In parallel, it will deepen collaborations with leading international research institutions and host premier global conferences to amplify Taiwan's international influence in the field of cybersecurity. Through this initiative, the project aims to significantly enhance Taiwan's independent technological capabilities and global competitiveness in telecommunications and cybersecurity, safeguard the critical infrastructure of the digital society, and fulfill the strategic objective that“Cybersecurity is National Security.”
